Ecclesiastes 4:12 – “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”
I was just reading a book called Who’s Got Your Back by Keith Ferrazzi and I was immediately reminded of the importance of not going it alone. Not when it comes to making decisions about what I’m doing with my life, when I’m considering business ventures, basically, even just the day-to-day stuff of life – don’t be a loner!!
Why not? Because there is strength in bonding together with a few people who know you -who you are and who you’re not. It’s too easy to get a lopsided view of things without authentic feedback. I can count on one hand the individuals I would consider my “lifeline” relationships. I call them my Inner Circle. You don’t need a whole crowd of these folks; crowds are noisy. You need a few honest people who care about you and will give you the encouragement or yea, the proverbial kick in the pants as needed for your future development.
So who can you call on? Who do you need to connect with? Take some time to figure this out, because it’s a deal-breaker. You already are thinking of individuals you need to have an honest dialog with about how your life is going. Whether it’s over lunch, a long weekend, a trip to the beach, or a long dinner by the fire, it’s time to talk with the ones God has entrusted with the opportunity to know you. These are the ones who want to champion your life, sharpen you like iron, or pick you up from the ash-heap if need be and send you on to meaningful life and work.
So who’s got your back?
